Gardener at Heart - Book One

Autumn Orchestra

The year’s great day revolves toward afternoon.

Seeds rattle in their pods.

Spiders pluck their webs,

strong in their annual kingdom.

Call notes ring from reddening orbs:

crab apples, rose hips, honeysuckle berries.

Beak people flute from twig to twig.

Hide-and-seek insects shrill out a descant.

Player after player greatens the symphony

Until finally—

Fortissimo!
