Gardener at Heart - Book Two

In Which A Native-Plant Enthusiast Surprises Us By Her Choice Of  Favorite Plant

Now this here is a noxious weed.

You gotta pull it up real quick

Before it sets some noxious seed.

Make sure your gloves are good and thick

Because it’s full of prickly “ows,”

And sticky sap drips down its stalks.

What’s more, it kills both sheep and cows,

And smells like skunks in dirty socks.

It’s armored, bristled, thorned, and spined.

I love this plant. I think it’s great,

In such a mixed-up world, to find

A thing that it's okay to hate.
